Do I have to be single to join Urban Outings?

No, you do not need to be single. Urban Outings is open to both single and coupled/partnered individuals who are looking to make friends and meet other men in a fun, laid-back setting.

What percentage of members are single? Coupled?

About 85% of our members are single when they join, and about 15% are in a relationship or join as a couple.

Do I have to be out of the closet to be an Urban Outings member?

When you sign up for an Urban Outings membership, we do not ask you whether or not you're out. If you decide to join Urban Outings and attend activities, then you are an individual who is comfortable being seen out on the town with a group of other men, regardless of where you are.

Do I have to be a gay man to join Urban Outings?

Urban Outings is designed specifically for men who like men and are looking to meet other guys like themselves. If you fall into this category, then Urban Outings is for you!

Why isn't there a version of Urban Outings for women?

Based on the focus group research we conducted prior to launching Urban Outings, we discovered that overall, gay men and lesbian women preferred single-sex social atmospheres. Respecting this preference, Urban Outings decided not to offer mixed-sex social events. Currently Urban Outings does not offer activities for women. But in the future, we hope to launch a similar activities club for women called SheCity.

How old are Urban Outings' members?

Members are all ages, 21 and over. For legal reasons, we cannot accept anyone under the age of 21.

What are members REALLY like? Is this a group of socially impaired wallflowers?

NO WAY! Urban Outings is chock full of vivacious, intelligent, fun-loving and successful social guys who like to have a good time while meeting new people - people just like you!

How do I know if I'd fit in?

Our membership attracts so many types of people that everyone finds others with whom they connect. Whatever your personality type or interests, you'll find people like you here. And because you sign up for events that pique your interests, you are certain to find others at those events with the same interests as you.

Is it cliquey?

Admission to the club is on a rolling basis, and new members join every day. With over 1,200 members, there's no 'in crowd' and it's not 'cliquey.' Plus, the roster of attendees is never exactly the same for any two events.

What if I am shy?

When people become members of Urban Outings, they immediately are welcomed into the club by their fellow members, experiencing acceptance from their peers. After all, our members have joined the club because they want to meet people, so they are always friendly in welcoming new arrivals. This culture brings even those who consider themselves shy right out of their shell! We've watched people go form being reserved to being outgoing, simply because they feel included and comfortable from the first day they join.

Do people make friends with whom they socialize outside of Urban Outings?

Of course! Urban Outings events are a great place to meet new friends with whom to socialize both at club events, and outside the club as well.

Will Urban Outings find me romance? A boyfriend? Friends? Networking contacts?

Urban Outings is a social activities club that attracts hundreds of men, all with different life situations and reasons for joining the club. Some people join because they are new to town; some join to be more active; some join seeking friendship or romance; some join looking to meet other couples, etc. Urban Outings does not specifically connect you in any of these ways, but the club does provide an environment where you can develop all of these sorts of connections. It's up to you to use the club to meet who you want to meet. It couldn't be easier!

Can I use the club if my schedule is unpredictable?

Because of the sheer number of activities we offer, we accommodate even the most erratic of work and life schedules. Moreover, you never need to know your schedule way ahead of time to sign up and participate in events. Assuming there's availability, you can register for an event only hours before it begins!

We want to meet all prospective members before they begin attending our events. Don't worry, our face to face meeting isn't a drag! It's a fun, easygoing way for us to chat for 30 minutes and learn all about you, answer your questions, and have you learn all about us. We're social people, so of course we want to meet you in person if you're considering being part of our community! From years of experience, we have learned that is best accomplished face to face. Also, this process allows for a basic level of necessary security, while ensuring that the Urban Outings membership remains a diverse mix of some of New York's most interesting men. Can I join alone?

Yes! Almost all of our members join on their own, without knowing anyone else in the club. You never need to worry about feeling unwelcome at events, because an Urban Outings event host greets you at every activity, and facilitates introductions and interaction. There's a real sense of community that comes from belonging to Urban Outings. Friendships naturally develop through the interactive nature of the events. Our activities feel more like a group of "friends of friends" going out together than it does a disconnected crowd of strangers.

How do I sign up for events? Can I attend an Urban Outings event without being an Urban Outings member?

How big are the groups at each event?

Most events are intentionally planned to be cozy, drawing 15-25 people. Additionally, our cocktail parties may draw 50-80 members, and our mixers usually have upwards of 200 people.

Are Urban Outings' activities held only in specifically "gay venues" and "gay neighborhoods"?

Urban Outings makes a wholehearted effort to support businesses in the gay community. As a result, we host a number of our events at gay-owned and gay-friendly restaurants, bars, venues, etc. However, the cities in which we run Urban Outings are diverse with plenty of offerings, so Urban Outings stretches its horizons beyond merely the official "gay neighborhoods" in order to offer our members the finest and most entertaining array of activities available.

Do any Urban Outings events require prior experience?

No, almost every event we offer does not require prior experience and is open to individuals of all experience and/or skill levels. Only on very rare occasions will an event require an individual to have prior experience or a specific level of skill; for these types of events we make Active Members aware of the requirements before they register for the activity.

Are events geared toward a specific age range? Are different events offered to different age sets?

Because Urban Outings is about bringing people together around common interests regardless of other factors, we do not segment our membership or our activities into age categories. Events are never geared toward a specific age set. We find that at almost all of our events, the full spectrum of ages is represented.

Am I required to attend a minimum or a maximum number of events each month?

No, there are no requirements. It's all about doing what's best for you! You may attend as many or as few events as you would like each month, depending upon your schedule, level of interest in offered activities, and space availability. You may even choose not to attend an events in a given month, but don't stay away too long because we'll miss you!

Can I bring a guest to an event?
